Our Garden

Our garden is a modern day Victory Garden with a unique West Coast flair - designed to create a natural oasis within the city.  Raised beds made out of drift wood and rock mimic a beach shore and are planted with a mix of fruit trees, shrubs and perennials intermixed with edible and ornamental native plants.  Other simple raised garden beds are filled with gourmet vegetables and herbs - creating a lush landscape filled with tasty organic produce that can be harvested and foraged from all year long. It is both a forest food garden and a traditional country garden.  A little bit of the best nature has to offer right at our doorstep!

The garden is adorned with scavenged agricultural and industrial materials reflecting BC's history.  Recycled and repurposed items are used throughout the yard to create fun, economical, functional pieces of garden art.  It is designed to stand on its own as a beautiful garden with all the added benefits of being edible and creating a sustainable, diverse ecosystem.  Hopefully it inspires others to create their own little edible oasis in whatever space they have, with whatever materials are available.  It doesn't take much to start and it's surprisingly empowering and rewarding to grow even just a few herbs to add to your diet.  Most of all, often overlooked – it's fun and rewarding, to create an area that not only provides food for your table but  also sustains your spirit.
